Magic Kingdom and Panera Bread

We’ve had a smashing day at the Magic Kingdom today in the Florida sunshine. I don’t think I’ve mentioned how lovely the weather has been since we arrived. The temperatures have been in the eighties every day, with blue skies and not a drop of rain. Perfect.

We had a late start and got to the park at around noon. I’m currently reading The hidden magic of Disney World and there’s loads of fascinating trivia in there. It makes walking round the parks even more fun. While we were looking for some of the details we wandered down one of the side streets and found a little seating area that we’ve never noticed before.

You see the alcove below the orange and yellow banner? There’s a light hanging from the ceiling there. You can just make it out. Look what we spotted in the light.

There’s a bird nest with baby birds and a very protective parent. We could hear them chirping. I was very careful not to upset them while taking the photo. That’s zoomed right in. Not what we expected to see.

We got some drinks from Starbucks and sat there for a while, just soaking up the sun. I had a Green tea crème frappuccino and Stephen had a Strawberries and cream one.

They were very, very nice.

We went on quite a few rides today, mostly kiddie rides.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority
Space Mountain (FP)
Carousel of progress (haven’t been on that for about 15 years)
Tomorrowland Speedway
Stitch’s great escape
It’s a small world
Seven dwarves mine train (FP)
Pirates of the Caribbean aka the Johnny Depp ride (FP)
Mickey’s PhilharMagic
The magic carpets of Aladdin
The many adventures of Winnie the Pooh (FP)

We took a few photos. This is Stephen on the speedway. I let him do the driving. He seemed to enjoy it.

Me on Small world. I’ve still got that flippin’ tune going round and round in my head.

The obligatory Castle photo.

While walking through from Fantasyland to Liberty Square, we stumbled on a great place to watch the parade. It was just going past as we got there and there were hardly any people in that area. I got some decent shots. I particularly loved the huge dragon, especially when he breathed fire. So cool.

We were on our way to Sleepy Hollow to get a snack, but waited until we’d watched the parade. I’d read about the food at Sleepy Hollow on the Disney food blog so had intended to try it if we could. We had a Sweet and spicy chicken waffle between us and it was yummy. No photo, I’m afraid, as we dived straight in. They do several different waffles, but we’d love to try the Nutella and fresh fruit one.

After our final ride in Pooh’s honeypots, we made our way out and headed to Publix to pick up a few groceries. On our way home from there we stopped in at Panera Bread to get takeout.

Stephen had a Chipotle chicken panini and I had a SouthWest chicken flatbread with a cup of autumn squash soup. It was all delicious, especially my soup.

We finished the evening off by watching some Big Bang Theory with our dinner. One of the channels shows about five episodes each night so we’ve been binge watching it. Love it!

We’ve another early start tomorrow as we have early entry to Animal Kingdom. More Safari! Whoo hoo.
