Dance on the beach CAL #5

I’ve barely managed to finish off week four in time this week. I’ve struggled with this one, even though it’s a much simpler design than last week’s. I had to redo the first square three times before I got the gauge right, and ended up going from a 4mm hook down to a 3.25mm.  Also I kept ending up with too many stitches left at the end of the rows of waves and had to redo them. I have no idea what I was doing wrong, but hopefully I’ve stopped doing it now as I still have the four to do for the Stars blanket when I get a chance to catch up with those.

So, this week was a waves design, in keeping with the beach theme, and it’s very pretty. It used a technique that I hadn’t done before so I really enjoyed learning that.

Rain-wk4-01They weren’t blocked when I took the photo, but I did get them on the blocking board yesterday so I’ll have a better photo of them for next time. I was getting a backlog of blocking as I could only fit four boards on top of the bedroom bookcases, and I need to put them somewhere that Sammie can’t reach. After a bit of thinking, I found somewhere else that she hasn’t managed to get to yet, so I’ve cleaned that off and now have more space to block.

Stars-wk2-02That’s the wall units by my computer desk and there’s just enough space to fit four blocks. Week two of Stars is on there at the moment, with week four of Rain upstairs.

Week three of Rain is now blocked and has been put into the storage drawers with the others.

Rain-wk3-02I’m keen to crack on with the Stars version of that one while it’s fresh in my mind. I did the fourth one in half the time that I took to do the first one. Plus the Stars one is a lovely bright orange that’ll be fun to crochet.

Week five looks very simple, so hopefully I’ll be able to get them done and have time to catch up with some of the Stars squares.

  1. Oooo, love the waves block! What a nice pattern. Sorry you had a time with it. Hopefully it is all worked out and you can breeze through the next ones with no problems.

  2. They look as though they’re light enough to not get pulled out of shape if they weren’t flat, so you could lean them against each other if you wanted. Looking good 🙂

  3. I’m so tempted by this design, so different to any others I’ve done. Dare not tough. I’ll vicariously do it through you. You are good making yourself get exact gauge, payback time will come when you will be so glad you did! Beautiful work, and you keep reminding me why I never want a cat!! Looking forward to more Fiona x

    • It’s fun to do Fiona. Just four squares in each design means you do enough to master that technique without getting bored of it.

Also, everyone should have a cat. They’re such fun. Sammie is currently playing with a feather and is jumping all over the place with it 😀
