This is the scheduled three-weekly post for the SAL that I’m doing with several other crafty blogs and I haven’t managed a single stitch in the past three weeks. I’ll leave the pic of where I was up to, as a reminder of what I’m working on, and hopefully there’ll be some progress in three weeks time. Would you like to see what I have been doing? Last weekend it was International scrapbook day and I spent three days doing lots of challenges and prompts all themed to The Movies. The weekend was run by Cal from The Scraplab and was lots of fun. I managed ten layouts and have a few more to do.
This is my favourite from the event. The challenge was to use a sketch and theme it to flowers. I used some photos from one of the Disney holidays. I’m sorry that there wasn’t any stitching for you to see this time, but I’m sure my friends on the other SAL blogs have lots of stitchy progress so do take a look.
For the stitch-a-long I’m linking up to these lovely blogs:
Avis, Claire, Gun, Sue, Constanze, Christina, Kathy, Margaret, Cindy, Heidi, Jackie, Sunny, Hayley, Megan, Deborah, Mary Margaret, Renee, Carmela, Jocelyn, Sharon, Daisy, Anne, Connie, AJ, Jenny, Laura, Cathie, Linda, Sherrie
Do allow for people being in different time zones, so not posting all at the same time, but it’s well worth doing a bit of blog hopping to see all the lovely projects that are being worked on.

Such a beautiful layout on your scrapbook! I don’t scrapbook much anymore, but when I see such pretty layouts it makes me want to dig out my supplies!

Thank you. I stopped scrapping for a few years, but I’m so happy that I started again. There’s such a lovely community of scrappers on FB and we have such fun doing challenges and encouraging each other. It’s great to get those memories preserved too.

I adore your scrapbook page Carol. I would love to make a scrap book but its the starting it that worries me lol . I can think of ideas for pages I would love to make but I am never sure how you actually begin – do you buy a good to create your pages in or do you create your pages and then turn them into a book. I find lots of inspiration for pages but if you know of any simple to follow instructions for actually starting the journey then I would love to know. xx

The best type of book to use is a simple ring bound one like this -> https://www.heylittlemagpie.com/product/products/albums/albums-albums/ac-12-x-12-modern-d-ring-album-key-lime/
It comes with some page protectors but you can get about 20 – 25 in there depending on how chunky your pages are. These are the page protectors -> https://www.heylittlemagpie.com/product/products/albums/page-protectors/12-x-12-american-crafts-page-protectors/
You just slot two layouts, back to back, in the page protector and add it to the album. Easy peasy.
I use mostly 12×12 as I can use one huge photo or several smaller ones or just go wild with pretty papers and stuff. Some people use A4 or 8×8. It depends what you prefer personally.
I usually do my layouts onto cardstock. I buy white, black and kraft in bulk as they’re the most versatile colours. White especially, as it’s best for stamping onto. I also buy those colours in A4 to use for matting photos as it’s much cheaper than the 12×12. Sometimes I scrap straight onto a full sheet of patterned paper but most papers are double-sided so then I get sad that I’m not getting to use the pattern on the reverse 😉
Sometimes people use an ordinary book, like what we’d have called scrapbooks years ago. The problem with those is that the spine is narrow so the book gets wider and wider at the open end as you add more bulk to the fixed pages. With the albums I linked to, the spine is nice and wide so your book stays in shape.
Does that help at all? Do you have any supplies such as cardstock or patterned paper to start you off?

I am. And I’m sure the stitching will come back out soon. I still have about a dozen challenges to do from INSD first though LOL

Pretty page and you just have to go with the flow of the moment when it comes to our hobbies. We must do what we enjoy at the time.

Thanks, and you’re right. Hobbies are there to be enjoyed. It’s just tricky when I do several different crafts and they all want my time 😉

I feel better now about having temporarily abandoned my SAL project too. 🙂 It’s just too bad we can’t do more than one thing at a time!

It is. I usually try to do a bit of everything but sometimes one hobby shouts louder than the others. Plus the garden is wanting some love at the moment too.
