This is the scheduled three-weekly post for the SAL that I’m doing with several other crafty blogs.
I haven’t managed to do anything on Los Gatos since the last update. The arthritis has been quite bad in my hands recently and holding the needle aggravates it, so I’ve avoided stitching for the time being. I hope to get back to it soon though. This is how it looked last time, and hopefully it’ll be finished for the next update.

Sorry to hear your hands have been bothering you! I had to rethink a project that had me gripping the needle too tightly. I hope the warmer weather will help.

Oh I hope the onset of warmer weather helps with the arthritis. I know my mom is also hoping for a respite from the pain

Thank you. It really is frustrating. I did try to see if I could hold the needle differently, but no joy. I’m trying to be patient and not try it again too soon.

Sorry to hear about your painful fingers Carole 😦 I find joints ache more in cold weather and we’re having a cold snap at the moment. Looks like you’ll need to go house hunting in Florida soon. That’ll do the old bones good 🙂

Thanks. Florida sounds wonderful in the cooler half of the year, but I’d die in the July heat LOL
The hilarious thing is that we’re thinking about moving further North once we’re both retired.

I too have arthritis in my hands that sometimes interferes with my stitching. Try soaking in warm water and then try some easy exercises. I find they help immensely when I am having a flare up. I have also used a copper glove that seems to warm my hand when stitching. Since my arthritis is in my thumbs I find that a thumb brace eases the pain also. I usually sleep with it. I am sure you have tried many of these, but I have gotten some good advice from other stitchers that I thought I would pass on. I hope your hand feels better soon.

Thanks for the ideas Cathie. I have one of those crafting gloves that supports your thumb, and I usually wear that when crocheting. I’ve got compression gloves that are great overall, and especially when my fingers are freezing, but they don’t quite reach to the joint that’s playing up at the moment. I’ll try the warm water & exercises though. Easy to do, and if nothing else it’ll warm my fingers up. They get so cold even if the rest of me is warm.

I’m wearing Compression gloves most of the time now, but they don’t quite reach the joint that’s playing up at the moment, which is the one nearest the nail on the first finger – the one that grips the needle…
The arthritis is mostly in my thumbs and isn’t too bad yet, but it’s worrying thinking about how bad it could get, and that I might not be able to crochet or stitch at all later in life. I don’t like getting old 😉

I don’t think any of us like the idea! I sometimes have achey thumbs, but the HandEze mitts help with that. My other worry is that eyesight will dim, and I don’t know what I’d do without my eyes.

That worries me too. I’m already at the point where I can’t stitch without a magnifying light.

oh yes they look like they give a lot more support!
You aren’t alone ! and I always wear a pair of magnifying glasses on the end of my nose, on top of varifocal glasses when stitching lol. Don’t need them for knitting, crochet or machine sewing, but for xstitch and diamond painting, I do.

Yes, I’m ok with just the ‘old lady glasses’ (varifocals LOL) for crochet & sewing. It’s just any embroidery, as I can’t see the flippin’ holes without my maglight LOL
