ASIS – finished

I am really pleased with how this has turned out. It’s not perfect by any means, but that poodly/loopy yarn hides all the wobbly bits very nicely indeed. It’s finished off with a button fastening which is made separately so you can use it or not. There are several ways you can wear an infinity scarf so I’ve taken a few photos to demonstrate – and to show off my first crochet finish in years.

This is the scarf doubled and fastened with the button tie. I like wearing it like this. It’s nice and snuggly around my neck and the tie adds a nice touch.

This is it doubled without the tie.

It can also be worn like a normal scarf, wrapped around the neck and pulled through the loop.

Or, for a different look, it can be worn long and fastened with the tie.

I’d quite like to get some variegated yarn in a nice DK and do another one of these. I bet it would crochet up very quickly in a plainer yarn, and look pretty with a stripey effect.

ASIS – half done

I’m enjoying this. I haven’t spent a lot of time on it, but it’s perfect to pull out when I don’t feel like doing any stitching but want to keep my hands busy. I’m about halfway through it now having done 11 of the 20 rows.

It’s lucky that this pattern states that it’s stress free and any mistakes should just be ignored, and if the chain gets twisted, it doesn’t matter. I’ve only made one tiny error so far, but because of the nature of the yarn, you can’t really see it. More worrying is how twisted it is. Because of how poodle-ish this yarn is, it was hard to see the chains, let alone see if they were twisted or not, when I joined the two ends. There are a lot of chains too, which made it  harder. I think it’s twisted about three times but when it’s finished I’m sure it won’t matter.

This yarn is quite tricky to work with as the poodly bits hide the bits of the stitch that you need to hook into so it is quite a bit slower to work on than a plain yarn. I do love it though so it’s worth the effort. I’ve taken a close up so you can get a better idea of what the yarn is like.

It  may be hard to work with but that loopy stuff hides a multitude of sins.

A little bit of Crochet

So I know I really don’t need another project, but I just fancied doing a bit of crochet. I keep seeing all these lovely granny squares and blankets and hats and scarves, all on Pinterest and Facebook. Also, I have this lovely hank of yarn under my desk that’s been calling to me for a while, just waiting for the right project to use it on.

Then I found the ASIS – the Artfully Simple Infinity Scarf. I first saw it on Pinterest, then on Ravelry and finally tracked down the pattern on the Moogly blog. It’s a very simple pattern but looks so effective in the photos. I’m hoping mine comes out as nicely. I’m also hoping my yarn works ok with it.

This is my yarn and the printed pattern.

I have no idea what the yarn is. I bought it at Sewing for Pleasure a couple of years ago and it came just as you see it. No label or tag to say what it is. It’s very pretty, with loops on it and it feels nice and soft. It was on a special offer and I fell in love with it so bought it without knowing what I wanted it for. I’m quite pleased to have finally found it a project.

I haven’t done any crocheting for ages, so wish me luck. I’m sure it must be like riding a bike.
